Umunna – NAO report shows Brexit turning into “enormous headache” for Foreign Office staff

A new report published today (Wednesday) by the National Audit Office has revealed the costs and pressures created by Brexit within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Commenting, Chuka Umunna, leading supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, said:

“Clearly Brexit is turning into an enormous headache for hard-working staff at the Foreign Office, and not just because they have to listen to Boris Johnson’s migraine-inducing speeches on a regular basis.

“The Foreign Office is having to spend tens of millions of pounds preparing for Brexit, money it could be using for other priorities, whilst vetting procedures and work-streams are under ever-increasing pressure because of this new and massively complex workload.

“With Brexit becoming ever-more complicated and expensive, and with Government departments becoming increasingly bogged-down in the bureaucracy of the whole thing, the people of this country are entitled to have their say through a People’s Vote on the terms of any Brexit deal.”
