The Cabinet has broken up without any additional money being allocated to the NHS, despite sustained briefing from Boris Johnson that the Foreign Secretary was to demand an additional £100 million a week for the NHS.
Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:
"The country is used to seeing Boris Johnson use the NHS as a vehicle for his own political ambitions, but the public are no longer buying it.
"It is now abundantly clear Brexit will not deliver extra money for the NHS. In fact, Brexit has damaged our economy, exacerbated the staffing shortage in the health service and is deepening the winter crisis.
"Boris Johnson's cavalier attitude towards facts like these, and his prioritisation of his own interests over those of the country, are utterly unacceptable. If he genuinely cared about the future of the NHS he would be campaigning to stay as close to Europe as possible.”
