Commenting on the news today that wage growth fell behind inflation in February, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of the Open Britain campaign, said:
“The pound’s plummet after the referendum, and fears about the Government’s hard Brexit course, are now undoubtedly making working people worse off.
“If the Government fails to achieve a trading agreement with the EU that delivers the ‘exact same benefits’ as we have now, we will undoubtedly face still higher prices once we leave the EU, combined with a less dynamic economy. Hard Brexit means families will feel the pinch.
“Nobody voted in the referendum to become poorer, and the Government’s first duty is to prevent damage to our economy. That means they need to change course and pursue a Brexit deal that protects jobs and incomes.”
