Umunna – Withdrawal Bill delay shows MPs will not be railroaded by Government

The EU (Withdrawal) Bill will not be brought for committee stage in the House of Commons next week, the Leader of the House, Andrea Leadsom, has confirmed today.

Commenting, Chuka Umunna MP, leading supporter of Open Britain, said:

“As the negotiations in Brussels hit deadlock, the Government’s domestic Brexit policy is running into the sand as well.

“MPs of all parties are standing against Ministers’ disgraceful attempt to railroad the EU Withdrawal Bill through Parliament, granting themselves extensive Henry VIII powers with little or no scrutiny over their use.

“If the Government wants to get this Bill through Parliament, they will need to go back to drawing board and listen to the voices of MPs who are speaking up against this unconstitutional power grab.”
