What Nigel Farage’s Agenda Really Means
Farage claims to speak for the people – but his agenda serves the powerful few
Flatlining wages, crumbling services, an affordable housing crisis, and politics that feels like a closed shop. Millions are angry, and understandably so. Disillusionment has been rising for decades.
Nigel Farage feeds that disillusionment. He thrives on it.
Then he points it at the people with the least power, while cashing cheques from those with the most. His goal isn’t to fix our democracy – it’s to bend it further in the service of vested interests.
Who bankrolls the project
Reform UK poses as a revolt of the people. In reality, the party’s money comes from a tight circle of millionaires and financiers, many with offshore interests and a long history of bankrolling hard-right causes. Since 2019, over 80% of Reform’s funds have come from just five donors.
That’s not democracy in action – it’s politics auctioned off in the boardroom.
Immigration
Farage’s latest pledge is to abolish Indefinite Leave to Remain and force legally settled workers onto rolling visas with higher salary thresholds. It’s political theatre that scapegoats families and frontline workers, while distracting from failures in housing, training and fair pay.
It undermines rights, stokes division, and corrodes trust in our political system.
Cosying up to Trump and authoritarian leaders
Farage boasts of his friendship with Donald Trump and other strongmen. Instead of standing up for democratic values, he has praised leaders who undermine elections, attack institutions, and spread conspiracy theories.
He has refused to condemn Trump’s offensive claim that immigrants are “poisoning the blood” and bringing autism into America – comments steeped in prejudice and authoritarian rhetoric. By siding with this politics, Farage shows us exactly where his loyalties lie: not with British democracy, but with a global network of far-right populists.
And talking of conspiracy theories, let’s not even get into the frankly bizarre rumours Farage has been spreading about swans 🫠
The NHS
Farage rails against bureaucracy, but Reform UK’s 2024 “Contract” offers gimmicks and cost-cutting frames instead of the investment and workforce the NHS desperately needs.
That’s a wedge to normalise two-tier healthcare – putting profit before patients, and weakening the democratic principle that everyone deserves equal care.
Tax & the economy
Reform UK promises tax cuts that favour the wealthiest while hollowing out public revenues. When the sums don’t add up, services get cut, inequality widens, and whole communities lose out.
This isn’t about economic renewal – it’s about locking in a system where money talks loudest in politics and society.
Climate & energy bills
By promising to scrap or weaken net zero commitments, Reform UK is siding with fossil fuel interests against the democratic right of households to clean, secure, affordable energy.
Blocking green investment keeps us dependent on volatile prices and imports.
Workers’ rights & living standards
The rhetoric is pro-worker. The policies are not. Watered-down protections and migration scapegoating weaken people’s power at work, while bosses and donors benefit.
That’s the opposite of a healthy democracy. It’s power flowing to an ultra-wealthy elite, and away from hard-working people.
The bigger picture
Farage taps into genuine disillusion, but the cure he offers is deregulate, defund, and divide. That’s not just a programme to run the country badly – it’s a project to strip people of agency and hand more control to an ultra-wealthy few.
That’s where we come in. Together, we’re building a movement to stand up for democracy, shine a light on vested interests, and build a politics that works for everyone.
Help power the fight back
We are running a crowdfunder to take on Farage’s project and strengthen democracy against his backers. Every pound goes into exposing Nigel Farage and the far right, pushing back, and creating a healthy democracy where people – not vested interests – are in the driving seat.
