Educating and Inspiring

…more ordinary people to understand and use their democratic rights

Democracy only works when people take part. Yet too often, ordinary people are told politics is something that happens to them, not something they can shape. We believe democracy should feel alive, accessible, and empowering. That means making sure more people understand their democratic rights, and feel confident enough to use them.

This is about more than voting once every few years. It’s about creating a culture where people know their voices matter, where they feel equipped to challenge power, and where politics belongs to everyone, not just the few.

Understanding Your Rights

Beyond casting a ballot, people can:

  • Contact their representatives to demand action.

  • Sign petitions, start campaigns, and join movements that influence debate.

  • Submit evidence to parliamentary inquiries, shaping the laws that govern us.

  • Attend protests and demonstrations to make their voices heard.

  • Hold public bodies to account through Freedom of Information requests.

Our job is to demystify these processes, show how to use them effectively, and prove that they can lead to real change. We support people to do demand change, and we're looking to grow that participation further.

Inspiring Participation

Disillusionment feeds authoritarianism. When people stop believing they have power, the vacuum is filled by those who exploit anger and fear. The antidote is participation. People who know they can step up, speak out, and make a difference.

We tell the stories of ordinary people who have challenged injustice and won. We share the tools and resources – like our platform ActionStorm – that help people organise locally and nationally. And we build networks where people can learn from each other and see that they are not alone.

Democracy is not a spectator sport. The more you take part, the stronger it becomes.

A More Democratic Future

By educating and inspiring people to use their democratic rights, we create a Britain where politics is not something remote or elitist, but something rooted in everyday life. This is how we fight back against disillusionment and the far-right who seeks to exploit it. It's how we strengthen the bonds and build resilience against authoritarianism.

Our mission is to help more people recognise the power in their hands, and to use it.
