Help us take a powerful public call to Downing Street - sign the petition
Add your name to the thousands asking Andy Burnham to establish a National Commission on Electoral Reform in his first 100 days.
The remaining stages of the Representation of the People Bill have been delayed until September, creating a rare opportunity to strengthen Britain's democracy before the next general election.
If you agree that this opportunity should be seized, please add your name to our petition calling on Andy Burnham to announce a National Commission on Electoral Reform in his first 100 days as Prime Minister.
Every signature will help demonstrate the strength of public support when we take the petition to Downing Street on 28 July.
The delay may sound like a routine change to the parliamentary timetable, but it could prove to be a significant moment for democratic reform.
Instead of the Bill completing its passage before the summer recess, Parliament now has more time to consider how it can be strengthened. That coincides with the arrival of a new Prime Minister and creates a rare window to begin the democratic renewal Britain needs.
During his election campaign, Andy Burnham backed an independent National Commission on Electoral Reform. As he prepares to enter Downing Street, he now has the opportunity to turn that commitment into action.
Our politics is no longer working as it should. Millions of votes fail to help elect anyone. Governments can secure overwhelming parliamentary majorities on minority support. Too many people feel their voice doesn't count.
A National Commission on Electoral Reform would provide an independent, evidence-led way to address those problems. Rather than politicians deciding the future of our electoral system behind closed doors, the Commission would bring together independent experts and ordinary people to examine how votes are translated into power, consider the evidence and recommend how Westminster elections can become fairer, more representative and more trusted.
This is not about imposing a pre-determined voting system. It is about creating a trusted process to help Britain decide how our democracy should work for the future.
Opportunities like this do not come along often. Before the next election, there is a genuine chance to lay the foundations for fair votes.
On 28 July, we'll deliver our petition to Downing Street. We want it to be a powerful demonstration that people across Britain want their votes to count and want the new Prime Minister to act.
If you haven't already, please add your name today and help us take the strongest possible public call for a National Commission on Electoral Reform to Number 10.
